Mudik lebaran adalah Ritual Kolosal atau prosesi kolosal satu-satunya di Dunia dan melihat fenomena ini maka Ritual/prosesi Kolosal ini akan langgeng menjadi sebuah kebudayaan Muslim Indonesia. Apa sebenarnya yang terjadi balik Mudik Lebaran? Mengapa Masyarakat Muslim Indonesia sangat antusias untuk melakukan Ritual ini?
Dalam proses-proses perkembangan Kebudayaan, Maka Kebudayaan itu lahir dan bertumbuh dari dan di tengah dinamika masyarakat sebagai pelestarian jati diri masyarakat itu sendiri. Dalam hal ini, komunitas menjadi pencetus dan juga pemilik kebudayaan, masyarakat sebagai komponen, pelaku dan pengembang kebudayaannya.
Dalam konteks Budaya Ritual atau prosesi Mudik Lebaran, maka masyarakat pelaku, menemukan jadi diri, menemukan habitat kemasyarakatannya bahkan habitusnya.
Manusia tak pernah hidup dalam Vakum - sosial dan Vakum - romantisme kenangan. Baik pada masa kecil, masa remaja, masa muda, masa tua sampai pada kenangan asal muasal (desa, kampung, daerah, wilayah) termasuk nilai atas kenangan itu (pengajaran, nasehat, pranata-pranata sebagai kearifan lokal, dst).
Pelaku utama Mudik Lebaran adalah kaum urban. Kaum yang berasal dari dusun atau kampung atau desa di sekitar kota atau di sekitar pulau bahkan di sekitar negara, terutama untuk manusia Indonesia.
Sebagai mesin kebudayaan, Mudik lebaran adalah Roh dari mahkluk sosial yang terus menerus berinteraksi untuk menemui Fitrah Kemanusiaan pada sesembahan, yaitu Tuhan Yang Maha Esa, dalam bungkus pelestarian jati diri. Nach, yang ini (pelestarian diri) bagi masyarakat urban, hanya di temukan ketika prosesi atau ritual mudik menjadi laku. Dengan Ritual/prosesi Mudik masyarakat urban memasuki kenangan, memelihara romantisme, menemui habitat dan habitusnya. Mereka sejenak meninggalkan keterasingan atas lingkungan keras dan tidak ramah.
Maka kegembiraan, kesukacitaan dalam bentuk 'Ngabuburit' bersama, berbuka bareng kawan/teman, dalam tarawih keluarga besar, Sholat Id di kampung, makan ketupat dan opor ayam sarambi bercerita bahkan main petasan atau kembang api, merupakan kerinduan setahun masyarakat urban.
Melupakan masa lalu, berarti mati.
Melupakan asal muasal, berarti lupa masa lalu.
Siapa tak miliki kenangan, berarti tak punya masa lalu.
